Whassup? 2008
On October 24, 2008, a sequel film was posted to YouTube, reassembling the characters from the original commercial to show their lives at the tail end of the Bush administration. It uses the cast from the original commercial.
The film depicts a grim present-day existence for the characters. It begins with Charles Stone's character receiving a phone call from his friend, now on active duty in the Iraq, who tells Stone he is "still in Iraq, watchin' my ass." Stone, listening to John McCain on television, has lost his house and his job, and appears to be supporting an injured friend who lives with him and has no health insurance. In another room, their friend Dookie, devastated by the decline in the stock market displayed on his laptop, attempts to hang himself (but fails). During their phone call, a friend buzzes the intercom from the front door, where he appears to be trapped by a hurricane. For most of the characters, "Whassup?" has changed tone and meaning, becoming a moan rather than a greeting. One final time, the Army friend asks "Whassup?," to which Stone, now watching a clip of Barack Obama, replies "change thats whassup."
The film ends with a call for political change and an exhortation to vote on Election Day, and ends with a disclaimer that it does not reflect the views of Anheuser-Busch Companies.
