Some of you guys are spewing rubbish out on this thread about how $hitty DRM is, yet more than half of you dont even know what it really does.
Allow me to enlighten you fellas: EA's DRM software simply installs something called a "rootkit" on your system. A rootkit can sometimes be damaging to a computer system because it gains root permissions and bypasses certain security features in most operating systems through subversion or evasion of standard operating system security mechanisms to mask or remove running processes from monitoring programs, or hiding files or system data from the operating system.
There are a very large number of unpatched security holes on Sony-based DRM rootkits that EA has licensed from them, these security holes are well known to hackers and there are a large number of trojans that implement rootkit features or also take advantage of preinstalled rootkits to either destroy, take hostage or zombify your PC's software or system files.
Essentially, when you install the EA DRM software, they can use the included rootkit software to "phone home" on what you are doing on your PC, or also install additional software without even your consent whenever they want. They can install advertisements, government spy software, commercial trojans, cpu folding software, whatever your paranoid a$s wants to believe.
You should fear DRM because it acts like an arbiter and big-brother in one all inclusive package! If you pirate Crysis you are a criminal, if you crack DRM you are a criminal, if you buy Crysis legitimately, you are a criminal in EA's eyes.
