Crysis 3 is a polished iteration on the previous Crysis titles. Its campaign mode features
some much needed soul beneath the sci-fi sheen, which gives a sense of purpose to all
the killing that has been previously absent from the series. While its multiplayer mode
isn’t quite strong enough to tear you away from the genre leaders for long, it at least
provides enough of its own flavour to present a worthy alternative.
It’s not quite a next generation experience come early, but it’s a superbly controlled,
tightly paced and tactically flexible shooter with a satisfyingly focussed story, and an
excellent way to tie up the Crysis series... for now.

Crysis 3's story is so terribly forgettable that, re-reading this list a few hours after finishing the game, I can barely remember most of it happening. Or want to. There's a lot of competition for awful FPS storylines, but Crysis 3 takes the gold at a canter.

Crysis 3 is at its best when you don't touch it much, moving through its clockwork soldiers silently and watching from a distance – getting into fights always disappoints. From another angle that says everything about Crysis 3: the best thing in this game, after who knows how many years of development and millions spent, is hitting other players with a giant pipe. It is a gorgeously-rendered pipe, to be sure, and this is technically an incredible-looking game – but to call it beautiful would be to disregard aesthetics entirely. Crysis 3 shows how far the series has moved from the original's fabulous ambition, and makes you wonder exactly when Crytek stopped trying to make amazing FPS games – ones that pushed the important boundaries – and settled for pretty average.

Spoiler Fazit zu PC-Version:

Schon wieder ein Shooter, der die hohen Erwartungen nicht erfüllen kann: Crysis 3 bietet zwar umwerfend schöne Panoramen, doch leider hat sich das Spieldesign nicht mitentwickelt. Für einen Titel, der zur Hälfte auf Schleichen sowie Taktik im Gelände baut, verhalten sich die Gegner ziemlich dämlich. Die KI-Schwächen haben mir den Kampf nicht komplett vermiest, aber an manchen Stellen lassen sich Aliens und C.E.L.L.-Soldaten viel zu einfach austricksen. Auch wenn man auf die brachiale Tour spielt, können die Gefechte zwar solide unterhalten, vor allem die einfach gestrickten Bosskämpfe reichen aber bei weitem nicht an die Intensität eines Killzone 3 oder Halo 4 heran. Schade, denn die weitläufigen Levels im zerstörten New York gefallen mir prima. Ich habe es richtig genossen, die Gegend zu erforschen, welche technisch in vielen Punkten sogar Battlefield 3 übertrumpft. Gelegentlich wird der Erkundungsdrang auch durch stärkere Waffen oder helfende Verbündete belohnt. Der Multiplayer kann zwar nicht mit Halo 4 konkurrieren, hat mich aber gut unterhalten – vor allem in der spannenden Jagd mit dem Bogen. Schade, dass es keinerlei Koop-Varianten gibt und das Spiel gelegentlich abstürzt. Auf den Konsolen kommen technische Probleme wie Ruckeln, Grafikaufbau und Soundbugs dazu. Auch hier bieten die überwucherten Ruinen eine beeindruckende Kulisse, aber bei weitem nicht das technische Feintuning von Highlights wie Uncharted 3 oder Halo 4.
