    Crysis 2 Updated Impressions

We got a new look at Crysis 2, with executive producer Nathan Camarillo as our New York tour guide.

At the EA London Showcase this year, Crysis 2 executive producer Nathan Camarillo was in town to show off the latest build of the game. But before we got to see the long-awaited sequel in action, Camarillo spent a good portion of his presentation talking about the first game. "The nanosuit came in late in development," he claims, suggesting that it wasn't implemented quite how the team would want. Camarillo explained how players of the first game fell into three different "buckets," as he called them, according to how they used the nanosuit powers. You'd have the predator guys, who would engage the speed boost and camouflage abilities and then pick off enemies one by one. Then there were the people who retracted from combat, using mid- to long-range weapons to stay out of danger. Finally, he described the superheroes, who would just head into combat and run and gun their way around.

For Crysis 2, the team at Crytek has rearranged the powers slightly, made them more accessible, and integrated the binoculars into the suit's visor. The biggest change for Crysis 2, though, is the environment--as Camarillo says, this is the first Crytek game not to have been set in the jungle. "New York represents everything possible since the dawn of industrialisation--if you can't save New York, then you can't save the world," said Camarillo. Perhaps more importantly, the city's dense population of buildings is a perfect challenge for CryEngine 3, the studio's in-house engine, and the team certainly has its sights on redefining the visual benchmark once again.

The demo that we saw was running on the Xbox 360 and started with the main character, Nomad, jumping several stories down a tall building. We watched as an EA representative played the game, engaging the nanosuit's powers to take down enemies in a variety of different ways. He switched on the power boost to jump from building to building, and used the predator camouflage to sneak up on victims and take them down silently. We saw plenty of cool stuff from the demo, such as the ability to fling enemies out of windows, sending them tumbling down to the streets below. Nomad could also rip off mounted gun turrets, Master Chief-style, and mow down enemy forces.

The first half of the demo was all about human combat, but the second half showed off the city's alien invaders. After a short break to skip over a cutscene that "would ruin the story for everyone," we saw Nomad captured by the private military and thrown into a helicopter. A nearby building was then torn apart by a huge alien creature, sending the helicopter tumbling to the ground and allowing Nomad to make his escape. However, he was soon on the ground facing the invading alien forces. Unable to fend off the attack though, he took a fatal blow, at which point the demo was over and the Crysis 2 logo appeared.

While it was certainly a short look at the game, Crysis 2 still appears to be shaping up well, especially given it's the series' first appearance on consoles. With the game due for release by the end of the year, we're bound to see more on it soon, so keep an eye out during our Electronic Entertainment Expo coverage, where we should be able to bring you even more details.

    Spoiler Text:
    Mr Manhattan

Invited by EA to showcase London on Tuesday, we've seen two run Crysis Xbox 360. And the truth, no false outstanding between us is that despite tons of fanboyitude, this little half-hour show was a bit disappointing. The kind of feeling we have when we pick a candy packaging enticing, we expect something wonderful to ultimately enjoy a single-good-chocolate. And despite her pretty trailer, 2 Crysis looks tasty, but not as essential as expected.

Farewell sea beach and coconut trees, Crysis 2 takes place in our good old city of New York. Three years after the events of the first component, the alien invasion spreads and America tries to defend his city-symbol. And as if that was not enough, a paramilitary organization, Crynet, is determined to block the road to our great soldiers. Why? We do not know. Officially, an extraordinary facility scenario we certainly explain very well what anyone says, his eldest was rather well-taken. Unofficially, it must draw on something other than aliens. For it must be confessed, the party lathing octopus Crysis showed a big drop in speed compared to that against the Korean troops.

    Nanosuit 1.5

In the mission we were shown, Nathan Carmadillo, the game's producer, had to jump from roof to roof to infiltrate local Crynet and eliminate the guards. For zigouiller these units and paratroopers aliens who patrol (infantrymen already seen in the trailer), new shots should give a serious facelift to the gameplay. Can not say much more, it will settle for the words of Nathan. For what we've seen, it is possible to silently kill the enemy (human only?) A well placed stab. Already seen but pretty cool. Changes also the side of the building follows the nano. A priori, it should not propose new powers astounding. By cons, after studying the behavior of players, the devs at Crytek have decided to combine the capabilities of several "modes". To date, three of them are not known and whether there will be others. You will have to settle for the Armor mode, default mode that will feature enhanced armor, Stealth mode, which combine optical camouflage and silent kill capabilities mentioned above, and the Speed mode, which will push into the pile and to have superhuman strength. The nice idea there, plus we avoid juggling between keys is that weapons like the first Crysis, this little world will be fully customizable. Are we able to recover alien technology and appropriate it? No idea, but there is clearly something to dig on that side.

    Maximum Console

The problem of Crysis 2 is that it suffers, inevitably, the legacy of his illustrious ancestor. A killing that gave visual objectives to the player while leaving it free of his actions. But switch on consoles, the game sandbox Crytek had to pass through a sieve to meet the technical limitations of our machines. And despite a polished speech explaining the need for a more personal clashes that ordinary island, clamping technique is probably one reason that prompted the studio to choose New York. A playground more fragmented, with fewer viewing distance to manage. But is this really a problem? In nay. We offer something new to explore is an excellent idea.

The concern is that for all we have seen, and difficult to judge whether a short-demo, Crysis 2 would deny the freedom aspect of his ancestor to stick to a more interventionist narrative, even more than in Crysis Warhead. More embarrassing still, for now, the rendering is anything but the slap graphic expected. And if aliasing ubiquitous in this version, should disappear in the end, the buildings of the big apple are far less impressive than the Korean jungle. And that, it will not change.

It has been said, this first presentation of Crysis 2 has disappointed us. So yes, the game features refined gameplay, which leaves the player free of its approach, whether discrete or totally buggers. Yes, there are more moves, more enemies, different, sustained action too. But what is gained in efficiency, we may lose in freedom and graphics rendering. Currently in alpha release, crysis 2 is a promising project, classical and effective. Not as spectacular as the first in any case, already splendid over six months before its release. Now, there are still several months from Crytek to fine tune his game and more of us pretend to be liars, we are working to full capacity.

    Spoiler Text:
Crysis was one of the two central pillars of the particular event that Electronic Arts held in London a few days ago, which added some new touches on what holds one of the most anticipated titles of the year. Crytek no chance and, with a strong demonstration focused on demonstrating the potential of the console title, again placed between the eyes of users who expect to know every single detail about this work.

We were excited to know what show on his little show Crytek large creature. Perhaps a new version of the pre-alpha built shown weeks ago in which this house had the pleasure of attending the exclusive, maybe a surprise with which unlikely to cause a blow back effect from the press. It finally happened first, what the other side was expected, but this time (as well happen in the U.S.) did accompanied by a member of the German team would be responsible for responding to queries posed by attendees will event.

To refresh the memory of the clueless, the main innovation that includes Crysis 2 passes through the inclusion of a new city that presents itself as territory invaded by aliens, a situation that sees the hero in person. The American city gives users new opportunities to test the Nanosuit developments which boasts the protagonist. The presentation begins with the living proof that the prismatic play a very specific function within the plot, or more specifically the observation, which in turn allows different approaches to the same scene without necessarily changing the point of view from which focuses the script.

The hero stars in a scene in which seriously damaged the suit and then put the audience squarely in a stunning cinematic scene in which the invading race gets domain of New York, although no passengers who can regret the incident. The city has been evacuated, leaving behind the memories of those desperately seeking loved ones. The situation could be worse, although it seems that Crytek takes this fact to put the player in a new frame of mind: "if before the player was facing a desert island whose future was totally the same, now New York is the city in which developed the script. A city life, past, present and an uncertain future, but history after all."

    New approach

"When a building falls, the player imagines that also fall memories of its inhabitants. When a volcano erupts, however, it seems that nobody cares especially since this is an isolated element that does not belong to the life of the players. " From Crytek take this element as a basis for introducing the rest of the novelties, which again highlighted the ability to customize the Nanosuit, new properties that the city offers, new weapons, an enemy AI that stands out precisely for refusing to comply with pre-established routes, but changes each time the player loads the game and goes into the gameplay.

Nomad, the hero, is arrested, gets on a helicopter that shoots down an entity of enormous proportions. It emphasizes that everything that happens on screen is reproduced by a 360, first sign of quality that has the title on the console after leaving the muscle that Crytek has worked since time immemorial, compatible. Can not answer questions that challenge the performance of the consoles (in the demo, pre-alpha state, there is a considerable flicker of buildings surrounding the main action), mainly because the E3 this should be implemented. The secrecy makes it impossible for any questions beyond what is shown is a starting point for more information.

The show ends with a black screen that apparently ends the life of Nomad, whose dress is severely damaged in the presence of alien beings that appear now as ultra powerful machines, unbeatable without the help of Nanosuit, from which we can see some skills "as you will see, jumps back to collect a strong role, just like camouflage, both options in New York will offer new gameplay options, new ways of approaching the adventure that never could have imagined in the jungle. Now the enemy is different: the nostalgia of seeing a mythical city like NYC is relegated to the largest of the ruins because of beings who do not care about life, only death. " We witness it to see how, after an amazing landing, various creatures literally fried to death to soldiers dying seconds behind the eyes of the hero.

The presenter in a few weeks ensures that Crysis 2 will star in a current page, but does not explain how or in what form. There is much that remains to be revealing, too much information to know without which it is difficult to understand to what extent can Crytek to squeeze the consoles for which it was designed. However, it ensures that the feedback from users has been taken into account when adding most of the product innovations such as customization options Nomad costume and other inclusions still to be confirmed. Will have to wait, as we say, to be the E3 that is responsible for disclosing the doubts that were once made to discover what this Crysis 2 ahead.

    Spoiler Text:

Crysis 2 doesn’t reach the shops till later this year, but we’ve just had a sneak peek at the game at an EA preview. Does the game being billed as one of the best looking console shooters ever made live up to the hype? Read on to find out.

Unless you’re a PC gamer, chances are you’ve yet to get your hands on Crytek’s original master-blaster. While the original PC-exclusive Crysis deprived console fans of one of the finest first-person games around, the sequel is making the journey to PS3 and Xbox 360 territory in what Crytek president, Cevat Yerli earlier called a “major stepping stone” for the studio.

Crysis 2 sees a fresh alien invasion. As typical of a Hollywood blockbuster, New York is the setting this time around. Gone is the leafy jungles of the prequel for a more concrete combat arena. The city’s in ruins and it’s you who must battle for survival, with a little help from the brand new Nanosuit 2 – a tough as nails full bodysuit enabling you to alter to your battle-worthy needs.

But why The Big Apple? At a top secret preview Crytek told us that the story form the original “wasn’t as good as it could have been, adding that in the first game felt a little isolated from the real world. “You didn’t care about the island,” Crytek admitted. The developer went on to say that New York has an “emotional resonance” and a lot of character and a chock-load of history to boot. And because New York signifies what man has achieved, in a sense, an attack against New York is an attack against the planet. “If you can’t save New York, forget about saving the rest of the planet,” Crytek added.

The Nanosuit 2 was also explained in juicy detail. It’s a character in itself that gives players “temporary God-like powers” and the chance for players to create their own gaming experience by combining different attributes such as superhuman strength and speed. The way players progress will be different, with players upgrading different attributes of the Nanosuit 2 during the game.

After indulging our imagination, we were treated to a demo showing off a few of the tricks players will be able to pull off. It started off high atop an already destroyed building overlooking the smoky Wall Street. It’s teeming with Crynet security.

Crytek then took control, using stealth mode to cloak like Predator in that same-named movie starring Arnie before, strangling a guard into submission. We could feel the satisfaction ourselves, and we weren’t even playing.

You can play stealthily or go in all guns blazing. Soon all hell broke loose and rounds were flying everywhere. Crytek promised ultra-realistic real-world physics, and it soon delivered. A nearby wall had a hole blown out of it, which players can use as cover, as we were shown. You can make use of the environment in other ways too by grabbing objects to fling and batter enemies with.

Without spoiling too much, the player soon gets apprehended, his suit gets powered down and things look pretty grim as you’re taken away in a helicopter. Soon after aliens knock it down before engulfing New York City in a smog of destruction. From taking on Crynet security you’re now face-to-face with intimidating alien folk in an explosive street battle. Unfortunately we didn’t get too see anymore. Crytek told us it didn’t want to say too much about the story at this stage. From what we heard It was pretty clear that Crytek was keen to avoid any potential spoilers. We probed, and we probed hard, but the developer wasn’t giving in.

Were we impressed? You bet. What we saw was pre-alpha Xbox 360 software, so it didn’t look quite as polished as we expected, but expect it to look diamond when it arrives. We’d liked to have seen more stuff that we couldn’t do in the original. But from what we’ve seen it’s shaping up to be more than just a sequel. With New York adding multi-level battles, a story worth paying attention to, and the Nanosuit 2 giving plenty more combat options, it’s looking good.
