[Update] - MWLL Christmas Calendar #4

Welcome to today's news and another look at Mech Warrior: Living Legend's Christmas Calander. A new selection of windows have been released by the team and today we would like to present to you days 36-48 on the MWLL Christmas Calander.

    Door 36 - New Image
The first door in our update was posted on the site as a capture competition; however, we thought the image was good enough to get posted so shown below is the great looking scene for the mod

    Door 37 - InGame Screenshot
Day #37 saw the release of another ingame screenshot, this time focussing on a vehicular scene in a snow based level for the mod.

Door 38 - Caption Competition Update
To explain door 38, the MWLL team have posted some information which is quoted below.

On January 7th, MWLL is opening door #38 in its advent calendar. It is yet again a continuation of an earlier screenshot - that of January 5th. Regarding this screenshot, we asked you to submit your captions of which the best fitting one would then be picked as official caption in MWLL's gallery. The "winner" of this little contest is: Calistarius with the short and concise "Hey! You! Turn that camera off!!". While all of your suggestions were extremely creative and entertaining, Calistarius' caption simply was the one that captured the mood best - and fit into the limited space available for the captions. However, on January 7th, we are again asking you to let your creativity soar. What do you think about this slightly different situation? What comes to your mind?

To even encourage your creativity further, we decided to reward it a little more and set up an additional sub-gallery that features the currently two comic-like submissions for January 5th, which of course did not fit into that little contest, but were too creative to disappear. If you can come with more stuff like that - feel free to hand it in.

Door 39 - New Light Mech
After showing lots of heavy mechs in previous doors, today the team decided to present a lighter mech entitled the Clan Mech Puma and its current four variants.

    Door 40 - InGame Screenshot
The fourtieth door if this exapnsive calendar displayed a demolisher stuck between two exploding mechs in its own hangar!

    Door 41 - Mech Graveyard
The Extremity level for the Solaris Arena map is returned to in door 41, with this impressive image of crumbled mechs across the planet.

    Door 42 - Combat Screen
SA_Extremity is returned to once again for door 42, showing off some amazing combat particles on the level.

    Door 43 - Elemental Armoury
New environments were the subject of Door 34, involving a Mech taking his pick from a host of portable weaponry that will available in MWLL.

    Door 44 - Mech Images
Door 44 saw the unveiling of a brand new mech and brand new location! This image features four Clan Blood Asps in the swamps of one of the mods levels.

    Door 45 - Mech Images
After having joined the team only a few days previously, Berker Siino could already present some a new mech entited the Longinus that has been created for the mod in this two screenshot door.

    Door 46 - Mech/Level Image
Door 46 showcased another image of the blood asp screenshots from door 44, this time in the SA_Frostbite level.

    Door 47 - More Mechs
In the 47th door the blood asps were once again displayed in the swamp level, shown off in the dingy foggy environment.

    Door 48 - More Mechs
After the plethora of swamp screens that have been explored in this latest week, Door 48 retuns to Extremity showing off some reinforcements arriving at the scene.

Greetings and welcome to our latest update on the MechWarrior: Living Legends mod! A number of interesting things have been going on for the team behind the Crysis total conversion modification MechWarrior: Living Legends; today we've got a news update from us at the MWLL team; read on for further details.

    InGame Videos
One of the major events in the weeks since our last update was the release of the "Things go boom" video. For the first time in months, the team decided to release actual animated gameplay footage for public entertainment. The video does not only contain a large number of exploding vehicles and Mechs, but also offers a glimpse at the game from the perspective of an actual participant. The video is shown below, but you can also find it in high quality on ModDB, Veoh and YouTube.

Another even more recent video explains one of the key teamwork features that players will be able to use in the mod: the TAG laser. It enables the player to paint targets for friendly missiles without their shooters having to expose themselves to enemy fire. This video is also available from ModDB, Veoh and YouTube (as embedded below).

    Image Update
Not using the amazing potentials of the CryEngine 2 to its fullest would just be wrong. Therefore, some of the effects you can expect to see in MWLL might leave you gasping in awe. See below two shots from Extremity, one of our maps for the Solaris Arena game mode. The first of these shots shows a couple of guided missiles exploding at their target and a PPC ending its journey equally successfull. The next shot shows a Catapult firing a whole salvo of LRMs at an enemy Mech hangar. A similar situation can be seen in the third shot below, with a Catapult just starting the barrage on a target in the distance.

Tactics will be very important and actively promoted in MWLL. As the battlefield will be crowded by all kinds of vehicles and players with differing equipment, good tactics will make the difference between forgotten casualties and living legends on these fields of destruction. The Inner Sphere's Longinus in the first screenshot below just spotted an enemy armoured column. While this simple battlearmor is vastly outgunned and an assault wouldn't even be suicide but at best completely stupid, possible responses to this threat might include designating targets with the portable TAG laser or simply reporting the observation via voice comm. To get an idea of the amount of firepower you'll be encountering in MWLL, the next screenshot displays the four currently implemented variants of the Clan's heavy Novacat and a group of Elemental battle armor for their support.

More and more Mechs are making their first time appearance in the team's media releases. The most recent candidate: the Raven, one of the Inner Sphere's light and scout Mechs. The four variants that will be playable in the beta are being displayed in the second shot below. Unlike the Mech, the city scenery will most certainly not be seen in the upcoming beta release. Just as unlikely is the appearance of the next environment, at least for the beta release: a group of Longinus battle armor just spotted a group of Clan Elementals patrolling through the swamp. Will they avoid contact or attack the larger group?

Being 'in the business' for more than two years already, the team still attracts several incredibly talented individuals from various professions and interests. The two screenshots below are not actual game content, but artwork created by two of our team members. The first image is a painting by Andy which received the working title "Showdown at Sunset". Andy is mostly working as a modeller and texture artist. The other shot is a render by one of the team's most recent reinforcements, an animator going by the name of Strykker.

Explosions being one of the main features of our latest teaser video, they have actually been replaced in the days just after that. The first screenshot of the two below shows the original Mech core explosion in progress. The next picture is a still shot of the new explosion, which still is huge, but significantly less hungry for ressources than the original one from Crysis.

The desert setting of SA_Sandblasted was home to the two combat screenshots below. The first one shows an Inner Sphere's awesome opening fire at an enemy Mech with a large laser while receiving support from high above and another ally's Mech with LRMs. The second screenshot shows a Clan's Blood Asp engaged in combat with an enemy in the distance.

    MWLL Developer Chat on IRC
On Saturday, February 21st, an open developer chat with the MWLL team will take place on IRC. If there is anything you'd like to ask the developers, join #mwll on irc.quakenet.org <irc://irc.quakenet.org/mwll> . The session is currently scheduled to take place between about 5-7PM EST / 22:00-00:00 GMT.

Thats all for this update; to see more updates and media from the team, check out the blog on their website here.

    Also Gameplay sieht gut aus

Since the teams last update they have continued with their advent calendar themed media release and today we will be taking a look behind doors 78 to 85. To view the entire calendar, or the latest MWLL media, please be sure to visit the official team website, linked at the end of this news post. Alternatively if you would like to leave the team feedback, ask a question, or simply find out more about this modification, please visit the Crymod forum thread located, here.

    Door 78 - Blood Asp
This screenshot contributes to the understanding of dimensions in the mod, as it sees a Blood Asp engaged in long range combat with an enemy.

Door 79 - Catapult Support Fire
The screenshot below features another Catapult doing what they do best - laying supporting fire with LRMs, in this case on an enemy position on SA_Extremity.

Door 80 - TAG Laser Tutorial
Door 80 sees yet another video being released: this time, it's a short tutorial on how to put the TAG laser to good use. For a fullsize HD version of this video please use the following link.

    Door 81 - Raven Mech
Whether or not the Raven in today's screenshot was about to cross the road didn't make it into the history books, but something to his right had definitely caught his attention. In the back, coming from the Mech Hangar: a Warhammer.

    Door 82 - SA_Sandblasted
The following screenshot gets us back to the desert of SA_Sandblasted, where a heated battle is going on. An Inner Sphere's Awesome has opened fire on an enemy Mech and finds himself supported by a unit in the air and another ally contributing LRMs to the fight.

Door 83 - Blood Asp Gauss Rifles
For door 83 in MWLL's advent calendar, they take us to revisit an already familiar place with an old friend around: today's screenshot shows a Clan's Blood Asp firing its two Gauss rifles.

    Door 84 - Artwork
The piece of artwork revealed to you with door 84 is again not an ingame screenshot, but a piece of fan-made artwork showing a catapult in burning woods. MWLL would like to thank Sam 'MechSilhouette' Bedingfield for this tremendous display of appreciation of our work. If you'd like to know more about Sam's work, check out his company Top Two Studios and their profile page on Deviant art.

    Door 85 - Shiva Aerospace
Door 85 brings a slight change: most screenshots so far have been very much ground-based, showing a lot of combat or just posing on the ground. Today's screenshot, however, shows an attack run by the Shiva, the Inner Sphere's heavy assault aerospace. The Shiva is hitting an enemy Mech with a salvo of LRMs. The location, once more, is ToA_Clearcut at night.
