Hier mal eine kleine Konversation zwischen einem JBL Partner und einem User
USER:
"I have to buy a new PSU for my selfmade Amplifier...
I thought a 40W PSU is enough to see/hear movies but now I had to find out that the system needs a peak of 140W on loud music
Don't ask me how this PSU survived an average of 80W on "partysound" for many hours without smoking
And don't tell me that I have to get a 10000W basemachine
The stereo system of my syster was sold as a 1500W sound system - on the back of the case they say that the PSU suplies a maximum of 30W
So can anybody tell me how they calculate this rubbish???
I just think I could tell my 4 x 40W system a 3000W system "

"Heheh yes that's a marketing trick,there are many sorts of this tricks,they have evolved trough time. In the audio industry there are many standards that are used to rate power, like RMS,IEC,PMPO,AES etc. Some serious respected amplifier brands like
Crown tend to use real power measurements, like 500w @ 20hz-20khz with 0,05THD (total harmonic distortion) that means it delivers that same power trough the hole frequency bandwidth and that is real true power!
For people power is everything, when i rent speakers first thing they ask me is "how much power is it ?"
So this little home sound systems,radios etc use every possible way to get more possible power! It;s like overclocking. They play frequency of 1khz and if the speaker survives it for 1ms (milli second) that is it!! it survived 1500w @ 1khz for 1ms with 100% harmonic distortion and after that he exploded! and that is how they calculate it. It is 1500w
They all use P.M.P.O standard (peak music power output) witch has been never defined, so from unreal 100w trough time it developed to a massive 1500w but actually never physically changed
Actually there are so many other factors that define sound quality and pressure besides power. It's better to have 5 real pure watts that would touch your soul than to have cheap 100w that will only get you a boring soulless sound "
