Dear Illfonic,
You work with Unreal Engine 3 as well as with CryEngine 3.
Do you consider CryEngine 3 to be a worthy opponent to Unreal's tech? Absolutely, both engines are solid and capable platforms. They both deliver extremely high quality on today’s platforms and provide toolsets never before seen in game development. Both engines have their ups and downs. CryENGINE 3 just came out to public licensees, as well as the free version, so with the feedback and experience CryTek will gain from this… I’m really excited to see what they do with it. Epic turned the feedback and advancement of Unreal Engine 3 into great things. I expect similar things to happen with CryENGINE 3.
Would you like to work with CE3 on future projects? Absolutely, Crytek is a great studio to work with. I like the Yerli brothers. They’re on their shit. The SDK team is also really awesome. Great group of guys to work with. Work speed in the engine is fantastic.
You want to release Nexuiz on Steam as well. Will the PC-version be released at the same time as the console version? I cannot speak for release dates at this time. However, I can say that the PC version is going to be a lot beefier than the console versions. So expect some more beauty going on!
How is your team split up (How many 3d-artists, programmers etc.) We have 3 Artists, 1 Animator (also an artist), 5 programmers, our QA lead and 4 testers
Will there be regular tournaments? Do you have permanent rank lists? We have some tournament planned, but nothing set in stone just yet. Ranking is very dynamic, so it adjusts how you play quite frequently. We have a ton of leaderboards, so competitive players will have a lot to look forward to.
Will you endorse pro-gaming? That said, do you target primarily skilled gamers or do you try to get the casual crowd excited as well? We haven’t officially tag teamed with any pro-gaming circuits yet. However, hardcore and pro skilled gamers are definitely going to like this. It’s an Arena FPS, so it will naturally fit with the pro gamers. We do try to cater to the casual crowd as well… the pro gamers of yesteryear aren’t the same as the masses of today. We feel theres opportunity to dive in and turn some of these casual players into grizzled hardcore gamers with the right allure. So, we target both audiences and try to compromise where we can.
PLUS: Are you and New World Interactive neighbors (I thought I saw their logo in one of your funny videos) - and did you bring them to CryEngine 3? New World Interactive is camped up in our Studio, yes. I did talk to them about CryENGINE 3 frequently. However, if that was the thing that made them decide to use it or not… is not for me to say! They’re working on some pretty hot stuff right now. I’m really excited to see what they **** up!
Thanks
Weitere Fragen:
Is there any chance to get a SandBox Editor to greate Maps for the game like in Crysis? I hope so, but no set word yet..
Can you give us any detail about the gamemodes in the game? Nexuiz ships with TDM and CTF, mostly because the Dynamic Mutators change so much of the core gameplay. We wanted to make sure we have a familiar and comfortable base for players as we layer this new system on them.
Can you give us any system specs for the game? Or should we look at Crysis 2 or lower then Crysis 2? If you can play Crysis 2 you can play Nexuiz! They’re about the same, really. haha
Are there any plans to get a Modding Community in Nexuiz like an SDK? I hope so, but it’s one of those things… it requires a lot of work, if we get the time, we get the time!
Do you like the support from the Crytek engineers? Yeah! Those guys are kick ass, I really dig them.
Viel Spaß beim lesen.
greetings Kolga
