Game Layout: Warhead and Wars should properly be considered seperate games. Each installs into a seperate directory with its own binaries, pak files and levels.
Editor attempts: You
can look at the new components with Crysis' Sandbox2 if you have the nerve.
Do this at your own risk!
My cookbook:
- I am assuming that you have legal copies of both Crysis and Warhead/Wars and have Sandbox installed.
- After shutting down Sandbox you have to move all .pak files in the Crysis root dir, along with the directories Levels and Prefabs (if it exists) to a secure location.
- Copy (or move) all .pak files from the Warhead or Wars root dir into Crysis' root dir. Note that these are different sets and are probably not intercompatible.
- If you're looking at Wars you should also copy/move the Levels directory into the Crysis root dir.
- Start Sandbox as normal. You'll notice the new assets. You might also get some errors but these can be ignored for now.
- Remember to clean up the mess after you are done!
An alternate route I didn't follow was to setup Wars and/or Warhead as a mod within Crysis. See doc.crymod.com for details.
CRY files: They aren't included in Warhead, though Wars
does include them. Some maps have indeed been altered somewhat. Those changes and the new maps are beyond the boundaries of this posting.
New assets: There are several new assets in Warhead. It's interesting to see the differences in style between the Frankfurt and Budapest teams. Crysis' asset buildings were quite often split into components allowing (for instance) rain to be kept off of buildings' inside walls. This isn't the case with Warhead. This is a very incomplete list of what's new.
- The new sub. This did get split up some though not as much as the old sub. There also aren't any hull variants.
- The train bits. There are some new rail elements but most of the new stuff is rolling stock. Some railyard stuff is also included.
- Mine buildings. Exteriors only.
- Airfield stuff. A complete hangar and a closed hangar door asset. A new tower.
- Various underground stuff. These should be popular though I'm not going into details.
- Goofy stuff. Why did they include a (badly) driveable excavator? Probably someone's idea of a joke (try and find out why).
Crytek Budapest also changed some skins. The new carrier skin (hull number 82) seen in a frozen pic is a
replacement for the Crysis CVN 80 skin.
Note: I was busily writing my posting when Cry-Alex posted.
Commentary is welcome,
