Crysis Mapping: Heightmap Utilities

The key to making an effective but also beautiful map is: A good heightmap.
Many would agree with me that heightmapping in SB2 isn't one of the easiest things, in fact most of the times it's pretty harsh and frustrating because you can't get an 3d preview or you need to brush very small details.

But don't give up just yet, because we would like to introduce you to some great (free!) 3rd party utilities that make heightmapping easy again.


Bryce 5.5
... is a great free tool made by DAZ 3D. The utility is designed to create realistic 3D landscapes and animations, but you can also use it as an heightmap generator. You can easily generate a terrain and then start editing it and also add effects to it.
Don't be afraid if you think the program may be a little hard to use, because Catbox has wrote a great tutorial for heightmap creation in bryce!

Vue 6 PLE
... is a program developed by e-on software. You need to register to use it, but you don't need to pay anything and you won't get any spam. The best thing about the PLE (personal learning edition) is that it never expires! This way, you can learn at your own pace. When you start the program, an random heightmap is automatically generated, you can then open the terrain editor and add effects to it. Or you could generate a complete new heightmap, or brush your own. The program also has some good algorithms for eroding your landscape to make it less computer generated.

brauche ich zwar im mom nicht da ich schon ne heightmap habe aber bestimmt ganz gut die tools besonders für welche die was geiles machen wollen^^
