Welcome to an official Crymod news regarding the new Crysis Wars level design competition being hosted by ESL (The Electronic Sports League). The guys over at the league initiated a level design tournament yesterday (15th February) and the contest runs until 15th March, so launch Sandbox2 and start designing! In this news post we've got information on rules, requirements, and prizes, so read on if you feel like winning some fantastic prizes for your Sandbox2 creations.

    About The Tournament
Shown below we've got a few of the rules and regulations for the tournament; make sure you read these carefully to avoid being disqualified during the judge evaluation.

    quote:
    • When will the contest start and end?
The ESL Crysis Wars level design contest runs from February 15th to March 15th.

    • How big should I make the level?
This is up to you, but it will be played by two players in 1on1 mode so design your levels accordingly.

    • Should I be excluding any weapons?
Yes - make sure that the FGL-40 Grenade Launcher, Smoke Grenades and Rocket Launcher are unavailable for use on your level to conform to map standards.

    • Who will be judging the winners?
Two members of the ESL admin staff as well as two members of the crysisnews.de staff will be judging the final levels.

    • What should I upload in my finished files?
In your .rar or .zip file, you should include a short level description, 3-5 screenshots that show off the best qualities of the level, as well as the latest .cry file, any .lyr layer files that you have used, and any custom materials/objects.

    • How should I submit my level?
Send an email with your .rar or .zip linked/attached to PtY@staff.esl.eu. You will need to register and add your ESL user ID to the e-mail to be able to participate in the contest.
    Contest Prizes
The three level designers with the best creations will recieve prizes in this event; these are listed below. As well as this, the best five levels will be placed on the 1on1 AIM Map Ladder.

    First Place
The first place winner will receive a Crysis t-shirt and a three months premium membership with ESL.

    Second Place
The contestant coming in second place will recieve a Crysis bag and a two months premium membership wth ESL.

    Cry-McGinge new Crytek Community Representative

We’re pleased to be able to announce that as of today March 1st, Sam ‘McGinge’ Howels has joined the team here at Crytek in the position of Community Representative. Sam’s main focus will be the Crymod portal. This means that Sam will now be an administrator on Crymod and will be in charge of the team that run it. It also means he’ll have regular contact with Cry-Eddy and other members of the Crytek team in order to put across the correct messages and information to the community, while giving your feedback to us.

I’d personally like to welcome Sam to the community team, and I’m more than cofident he’ll do a fantastic job. Welcome Sam!

We also have a message from him which is in quotes below.

    quote: Hey community!

For those of you who don't already know me from Crymod around the forums, I'm Sam Howels (known better as McGinge) and I've been part of this community for over a year now. I've seen these forums grow hugely in their aptitude at modding for Crysis, and it's been great to have been part of one of the most genuine, friendly and helpful modding websites on the net as it grew from a small group of enthusiasts to successful modding community. After working on the staff for just over a year, I am now able to contribute to this site more than ever before as I step into the role of a Crytek Community Representative.

As a Crytek Community Representative, I will be directly interacting with both Crytek and the community in making sure that Crymod and the modding tools are supported and maintained by the developers to suit the community’s needs. Conversely I will also be passing down official news to the community on the latest happenings at Crytek so that you're always the first to know the latest developments about the games, tools and sites that you care about. I will also be running the portal itself, making sure that the forums are maintained well, news is posted, and that Crymod continues to function as it should.

I look forward to settling in to my new role over the next few weeks, and can't wait to become even more involved in this fantastic community

See you all on the forums!

    Sam (McGinge)
    Whats to come?
We at Crytek are well aware that the big thing on the communities mind right now is when is the editor going to be released, and as much as we'd like to be able to give out a date, right now we're still in testing and don't have one. However, in the run up to the release of the editor we're working on many things so that when the editor is made available you'll be able to get to grips with it straight away.

We're working on updated tutorials for you, and not just any, but the ones you specifically want to see. We're also working on slight redesigns for both Crymod and the CryWiki to make them a lot more accessible to you whilst also providing plenty more content, these changes are in the works and will be launched just before the editor. As for the SDK and Editor, there will be a video announcement in an upcoming note to the community which should also be available from MyCrysis.com in March.

So although we still don't have a release date for the editor yet, we've got plenty in the works for when it is released and an update about it sometime this month. So for those of you that are disappointed just hold tight a little bit longer and the editor will soon be here!

Ziemlich enttäuschend, zumal Eddy soviel versprochen hatte.
